Law of Attraction – What to Do When You Attract the Opposite of What You Want?
by Christine Hoeflich
When you attract the opposite of what you want there is obviously a reason, but the reason is NOT the typical “Law of Attraction” response that you’re much too focused on what you don’t want. It isn’t because your thinking is too negative or you haven’t yet learned how to be mindful of your thoughts.
It doesn’t have anything to do with how you’re feeling either. You don’t need to manipulate your feelings or even pay all that much attention to them. It isn’t because when you feel fear, you put out negative intentions that somehow magically manifest. And it certainly isn’t because your mind now needs to be reprogrammed in order for you to “attract” success. It’s none of those things.
You attract the opposite of what you want because what your higher self wants seems to be in direct contrast with what your human personality self wants, and it’s the higher self that is in charge of your life, not your human personality self. (You can say that your human self is a vehicle through which the soul fulfills its goals of learning and growing and coming to appreciate the good things of life by experiencing the many aspects of separation first. But that’s a huge topic and another article.)
Simply put, you attract what your higher self wants (and has already planned for you). (I emphasized “seems” in the previous paragraph because after you get to know your higher self a little better, you will come to agree with or “align” with that bigger part of you.)
Your higher self does not think small, and it certainly doesn’t think of itself as small. When you come up with a list of what you want, it already knows what’s on the list and it goes, “Pff! That’s nothing. You’re playing so small, and I’m not that small. I’ve got an even better plan for you. Let’s play together and you’ll see.”
It’s true. Your higher self (also referred to as your inner core, your essence, your soul, your superconsciousness, your inner being, your subconscious…) has a plan for your life that’s greater, nobler, more courageous, more adventurous, and bigger-hearted than your human personality is able to conceive right now.
What’s there to do then? Simple: you get to know your higher self. You build a relationship with it. Over time you’ll learn its plan – your higher life purpose – and you’ll learn to trust it. You’ve been separated from it for a long, long time, and now it’s time to reconnect and become “One” within. (This is what is meant by “Oneness.”)
Don’t worry; you will still have an identity, a human personality, an “ego.” It’s just that now you will be whole. So then when spiritual teachers tell you that “not every negative thought and feeling will come true,” that it’s your “dominant thoughts and feelings that attract what you want, or in your case, what you DO NOT want,” you’ll understand on a deeper level exactly what they’re saying.
