Whole Plant Medicine: How RSO and Hash Rosin Elevate Our Cannabis Chocolates

Two extracts. One philosophy. The full power of the plant.

At Ahh Moments, we believe that what goes into a chocolate bar matters just as much as what comes out of the experience. That’s why we’ve built our entire product line around a simple but powerful idea: whole plant medicine. From the cannabis inputs we choose to the organic, responsibly sourced ingredients we pair them with, every decision we make is guided by a respect for nature and a commitment to giving you the most complete, honest experience possible.

Two cannabis extracts sit at the heart of that commitment — solventless hash rosin and RSO (Rick Simpson Oil). They’re made differently, they feel different, and they each bring something distinct to the table. But they share the same foundational value: they honor the whole plant.

How Solventless Hash Rosin Is Made

Hash rosin starts with the cannabis plant at its most alive — fresh or freshly frozen flower, harvested at peak trichome development. Trichomes are the tiny, crystal-like resin glands that coat the cannabis plant and contain its full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. To collect them, the flower is submerged in ice-cold water and gently agitated, causing the trichome heads to break away from the plant material. This mixture is then filtered through a series of fine mesh screens, separating the trichomes by size and quality. What’s collected is called bubble hash — a pure, concentrated form of the plant’s resin.

From there, the bubble hash is carefully dried and then pressed using a heated rosin press. Heat and pressure cause the resin to liquefy and flow out through a fine mesh filter, leaving behind plant matter and producing a golden, aromatic concentrate: hash rosin. The entire process uses nothing but ice, water, heat, and pressure. No solvents. No chemicals. No shortcuts. The result is a full-spectrum extract that is as close to the living plant as a concentrate can be — rich in terpenes, minor cannabinoids, and the complex chemistry that makes each strain unique.

This is why hash rosin is considered the gold standard of cannabis concentrates. It’s not just clean — it’s expressive. Every batch carries the distinct character of the cultivar it came from, and that character translates directly into the flavor and effect of the chocolate it lives in.

What Is RSO, and Why Does It Matter?

RSO — Rick Simpson Oil — has a different origin story, and it’s one worth knowing.

Rick Simpson was a Canadian engineer who, in the early 2000s, began making his own cannabis oil after being diagnosed with skin cancer. He developed a method of extracting cannabis using a solvent (typically ethanol or isopropyl alcohol) to pull the full range of compounds from the plant, then evaporating the solvent to leave behind a thick, dark, highly concentrated oil. Simpson credited this oil with helping manage his condition and began sharing it freely, sparking a global conversation about cannabis as medicine that continues to this day.

What makes RSO significant — and what makes it different from distillate — is that it is a whole plant extract. The ethanol extraction process pulls not just THC, but the full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes, chlorophyll, waxes, and plant compounds. The result is a dark, potent oil that carries the complete chemical fingerprint of the cannabis plant. Many people who use RSO do so specifically for its therapeutic potential — it has been widely reported to help with pain management, inflammation, sleep, anxiety, nausea, and more. While clinical research is still catching up to the anecdotal evidence, the depth of the plant profile in RSO is precisely why so many people in the wellness community have turned to it.

At Ahh Moments, we use full-spectrum RSO in bars like our High Times 1st place winner Matcha Crunch Ascent Milk Chocolate, where it’s paired with CBG and Sour Diesel sativa terpenes for a daytime experience that’s uplifting, social, and genuinely full-spectrum.

Two Extracts, One Philosophy

Hash rosin and RSO are made through different processes and carry slightly different profiles, but they are united by the same principle: respect for the whole plant. Neither strips cannabis down to a single molecule. Neither sacrifices complexity for convenience. Both deliver the entourage effect — the scientifically recognized phenomenon where cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant compounds work together synergistically, producing effects that are richer and more nuanced than any isolated compound could achieve alone.

Here’s a side-by-side look at how they compare:

Why Chocolate Is the Right Home for Both

Chocolate isn’t just a delivery vehicle for these extracts — it’s a genuine partner. Cacao is itself a plant medicine, naturally containing anandamide (the “bliss molecule”), magnesium, antioxidants, and compounds that interact with the same endocannabinoid system that cannabis engages. The fat content in quality chocolate also aids in the absorption of fat-soluble cannabinoids, making the experience more bioavailable and consistent. And on a sensory level, the terpene-rich complexity of fine chocolate harmonizes beautifully with the living plant profiles of both hash rosin and RSO — creating flavor experiences that are layered, intentional, and genuinely pleasurable.

This is why we don’t use just any chocolate. We partner with small-batch producers who source organic and fair-trade cacao and treat their craft with the same seriousness we bring to ours.

The Whole Plant Runs Through Everything We Do

Our commitment to whole plant medicine doesn’t stop at the cannabis inputs. It runs through every ingredient we choose. Ceremonial matcha. Puffed Peruvian quinoa. Real raspberries. Organic Assam tea, star anise, cinnamon, and cardamom. Sea moss. Vanilla bean. These aren’t filler ingredients — they’re plant medicines in their own right, chosen because they bring genuine nutritional value, flavor complexity, and wellness intention to every bar.

When you eat an Ahh Moments chocolate, you’re not just consuming THC. You’re consuming a thoughtfully assembled collection of plants, each one selected for what it contributes to the whole. That’s the herbalist tradition. That’s whole plant philosophy in practice. And that’s what makes the experience feel like more than just an edible.

That’s the ahh moment we’re always reaching for.
